CLASS DESCRIPTIONS

BALLET

Sugar Sprinkles | (18 months - 3 years) Sugar Sprinkles is an introductory toddler dance class where a parent or guardian joins them during their dance class. These classes introduce toddlers to our studio and make sure they feel comfortable learning to dance with us before trying an independent class Intro to Dance. Dancers are exposed to different styles of music, movement, fun dance games & props, while spending quality time with a parent, grandparent, guardian, or care-taker. Dancers receive an introduction to how to participate in a classroom environment, including taking turns and putting props away. Caregivers assist the children by guiding their movements, helping them stay on task, encouraging involvement, and easing them into independent involvement. The goal for this class is for dancers to become comfortable in a new learning environment and eventually have the ability to work independently in a group class setting.

Intro 2 Dance | (3- 6 years) Ballet Technique builds a solid foundation for dance training by emphasizing correct body placement, proper use of turnout, coordination of the body and extremities. Dancers learn basic ballet positions and movements through exercises and role playing that encourage creativity while laying the foundation for solid technique. Tap dancers get to be musicians and dancers at the same time! Tap dance uses the sound of the metal taps to brush, strike, and make sounds on the floor. Tap teaches rhythm and timing skills that are essential to building a solid dance education. Tap classes offer an upbeat and fun approach to rhythm and movement. The nurturing and stimulating environment of the class helps to develop a physical confidence and a joy of movement, while fostering grace and coordination.

Beginner Ballet | (7-9 years) Ballet Technique builds a solid foundation for dance training by emphasizing correct body placement, proper use of turnout, coordination of the body and extremities. Ballet requires regular practice in order to improve and successfully perform ballet vocabulary and choreography. This class is for young dancers who may or may not have had much experience in dance. In beginner ballet, we learn the ballet basics such as turnout, port de bras, and positions of the feet, arms, and body. The goals for this class include improved performance quality, refined body coordination, and becoming consistent in recognizing ballet vocabulary and being able to execute it.

Advanced Ballet | (10 - 16 years) Ballet Technique builds a solid foundation for dance training by emphasizing correct body placement, proper use of turnout, coordination of the body and extremities. Ballet requires regular practice in order to improve and successfully perform ballet vocabulary and choreography. This class is for advancing dancers with prior experience in a dance class and have an understanding of technique and apply it. The goals for this class include improved performance quality, refined body coordination, and becoming consistent in applying technique to choreography.

Adult Ballet | (16 +) Ballet Technique builds a solid foundation for dance training by emphasizing correct body placement, proper use of turnout, coordination of the body and extremities. Ballet requires regular practice in order to improve and successfully perform ballet vocabulary and choreography. This class is for adult dancers who may or may not have had prior experience and are looking to develop or refine their ballet technique. The goals for this class include improved performance quality, refined body coordination, and becoming consistent in applying technique to feel confident performing choreography.

JAZZ

BEGINNER JAZZ | (5 - 9 years) Jazz dance derived from the movements of Indigenous people and has evolved into a variety of styles including Tap, Swing, Classical, Pop, Street, Funk, Broadway Jazz and more! Jazz dance focuses on skills such as isolations, syncopation, strength, rhythm, contraction, and expansion. This class is where dancers will learn jazz dance vocabulary, coordinating their bodies to match the styles being taught and how to shift their weight in order to move at a faster pace. The goal for this class is for dancers to be able to move at a fast tempo while building clarity in movement and performance!

CLASS TIMES | Tuesdays 6:30 PM - 7:15 PM | Thursdays 7:30 PM - 8:15 PM


Advanced Jazz | (10 - 16 years) Jazz dance derived from the movements of Indigenous people and has evolved into a variety of styles including Tap, Swing, Classical, Pop, Street, Funk, Broadway Jazz and more! Jazz dance focuses on skills such as isolations, syncopation, strength, rhythm, contraction, and expansion. This class places an emphasis on combining skills learned in prior dance classes! It will progress into faster paced leaps, turns, quick foot movement and weight changes all in a high energy environment. The goal for this class is to be able to consistently perform faster movement in style and applying technique.

CLASS TIMES | Tuesdays 8:00 PM - 9:00 PM


Leaps, Turns, + Tumbles | (7+ years) ***THIS CLASS MUST BE TAKEN IN ADDITION TO BALLET OR JAZZ*** Leaps, Turns, and Tumbles is a technique and skill building class with a hearty warm up to build strength, flexibility, and conditioning in order to prepare for learning various jazz dance turns, leaps, and other dance skills. This class is supplemental to what is learned in technique classes and will progress according to the needs of the dancers in the class. This class is great for dancers who would like to further elevate their dance vocabulary and range of motion! Dancers will have a progression chart and the goal is to be able to successfully complete it or have a solid understanding of the mechanics of each skill on their chart.

TAP

Beginner Tap | (7 - 9 years) Tap dancers get to be musicians and dancers at the same time! Tap dance uses the sound of the metal taps to brush, strike, and make sounds on the floor. Tap uses the full body with an emphasis on the lower half and utilizing rhythm, syncopation, and sound. Students will gain experience in traditional tap vocabulary through learning tap dance basics and choreography to a wide range of music. This class is for dancers who may or may not have had prior experience in tap and need to learn and solidify the basics. The goal for this class is for dancers to begin developing clean sounds and making rhythms with the body and coordinating it all together.

Students will gain experience in traditional tap vocabulary through learning tap dance basics and choreography to a wide range of music. This class is for dancers who may or may not have had prior experience in tap and need to learn and solidify the basics. The goal for this class is for dancers to begin developing clean sounds and making rhythms with the body and coordinating it all together.

Tap uses the full body with an emphasis on the lower half and utilizing rhythm, syncopation, and sound. Students will gain experience in traditional tap vocabulary through learning and practicing a variety of tap steps, short phrases, turns, and choreography to a wide range of music. This class is for dancers who have learned a solid amount of tap vocabulary and can successfully sound out those movements. The goal for this class is for dancers to consistently perform clean sounds while executing difficult combinations. Faster tempos, complex rhythms, and tricks are taught to challenge our students at this level.

HIP HOP

Beginner Hip Hop | (5 - 9 years) Hip Hop dance refers to street dance styles primarily performed to Hip Hop music or that have evolved as part of Hip Hop culture. It includes a wide range of styles including the basics of Breaking, Locking and Popping which became official in the 1970s. This class is fast-paced and energetic using the latest street/urban dance moves set to hip hop music. They involve a lot of footwork, stylized movement and an emphasis is placed on musicality. Different hip hop techniques will be explored along with breaking down popular social dances from the past to present. The goal is for dancers in this class to become comfortable with moving to different rhythms and movement qualities while having the confidence to show off their own personal style.
